There are many math principles that I have learned observing Mrs. Hanley, a math teacher at Justiss Elementary in Paris, Texas. She helped me understand how to be a better math teacher. This is my second time observing a teacher. I really enjoyed myself and loved to be around the students and see how they interacted within a classroom. She inspired me to fulfill multiple duties within the school system. Mrs. Hanley has taught me to explain one concept in many different ways to reach the diverse learners, how to interact with the students, and how to lecture.
When I walk in the classroom I can feel the warmth of learning and a lot of math words like adding and subtraction. To my surprise I was in a gifted talent class, the students were smart for a third grades, it had more boys than girls. While I was looking around the classroom I read two a quote I really liked, “I will do more than I have to do I will treat others as I want to be treated and I will try to become a better person.” And the other said, “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.” Rosa Parks
The teacher and students interaction was wonderful, the teacher, asked a question and all the students raised their hands. Also the students loved going to the board to work out a math problem. She allowed time to work with an individual’s work and the class work together, also she turn on music while the students do their work, I’m definitely going to use her idea in my classroom. I loved to see the students working in groups, they worked well together.
While I was there Mrs. Hanley was lecturing on, equivalent fraction and going over what is going to be on the STAAR test, I can’t wait when it is my turn. The students learned very quickly because she had different ways to teach the lesson. Her voice was just like mine soft with power. When she spoke the students stopped what they were doing and listened.
During my observing experience I have learned how to be a better math teacher. I know I’m going to enjoy being able to interact with the students and pass on the knowledge I have for them, and I know it will stay with them for the rest of their lives. I also know I’m going love teaching and lecturing to the students. There is no turning back, I going to be a great teacher.
